Commentary

  • That's a wrap - And that brings our coverage of this contest to a close, with the Saint Lucia Kings cruising to a nail-biting victory. We hope you’ve enjoyed all the action. Don’t miss Match 4 of the CPL on Tuesday, August 12th, as the Jamaica Kingsmen take on the Barbados Tridents in Jamaica. Play gets underway at 12 am GMT, and we’ll be back well ahead of the first ball with comprehensive pre-match build-up, expert analysis, and exclusive insights. Until then, thank you for joining us, take care, and goodbye!

  • Saint Lucia Kings skipper - Roston Chase says it was a close game for them. He shares that they had a good score on the board, although they didn’t start as well as they would have liked. However, they pulled things back with the ball. Chase adds that they were targeting 165 from the beginning and praises Gous for playing a very good innings. He also reveals that he wasn’t supposed to bowl tonight as his finger is still healing, but says desperate times call for desperate measures.

  • Captain of the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons -  Fabian Allen says he thought they had the game, but in the end they just did not get over the line. He gives credit to St. Lucia, saying they put the Falcons under pressure, but adds that his boys fought to the end. On the score at the halfway stage, he feels it was a good wicket but they did not capitalize on it. Now they have to go back to the drawing board, with a few days off before coming back. On what could have been done differently, he says he always backs his players and thought Hamilton would get them over the line, but it was not his day and they fell short. He adds he always believes until the last ball and last delivery that 13 off the last over was possible. It is tough luck tonight, so they will go home, refresh their minds, and come back in the next game.

  • Presentation time...

  • PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Andries Gous wins the Man of the Match award for his 82 off 51 balls. He says the key to his success with the bat tonight is giving himself a chance on the wicket. With Jayden and Alzarri leading a strong opening attack and coming hard after the powerplay, he says they had to keep wickets in hand, get used to the surface, and then the wind helped too, so it was about playing the wind and adjusting. On being successful across different leagues and conditions, he says it is tough, especially in the US where facilities can be tough, so it comes down to the mental side. He credits having good family and good people around him who support him and who he can speak to.

  • Gous' show with the bat for the Kings - Earlier, the Saint Lucia Kings posted a competitive 187/7, powered by an excellent 82 from Andries Gous, with valuable contributions from the batters around him. The Kings will be delighted to have begun their season on a winning note.

  • Kings fight back with spin - For the Saint Lucia Kings, the bowlers leaked plenty of runs in the first half of the chase, but their spinners staged an impressive comeback through the middle overs. Maheesh Theekshana and Roston Chase led the way with two wickets apiece, while Joshua Bishop, Shadley van Schalkwyk, and Matthew Forde also bowled disciplined spells to keep the pressure on and help the Kings cross the winning line.

  • Hamilton lost it for the Falcons - Chasing 188 for victory, the Falcons’ top three, Rahkeem Cornwall, Evin Lewis, and Tim Robinson, provided brisk starts and put their side in a strong position. But the middle order failed to maintain the momentum, with wickets falling at key stages to derail the chase.  Hamilton struggled to find his timing and boundaries, managing just 10 runs from 20 balls, a knock that proved decisive in the Falcons’ downfall. A late counterattack from Fabian Allen, who smashed a quickfire 28 off 17 balls, gave the Falcons a glimmer of hope, but it wasn’t enough to take them over the line. The Saint Lucia Kings held their nerve in the closing stages to seal a nail-biting four-run victory and make a winning start to their campaign.

  • A comeback for the ages for the Kings - An excellent comeback from the Saint Lucia Kings saw them defeat the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons by four runs and begin their season with a thrilling victory. The Falcons were well ahead in the chase at the halfway stage and appeared to be cruising towards a comfortable win. However, wickets at crucial intervals shifted the momentum, while a scratchy knock from Jahmar Hamilton ultimately proved costly.
