  • New Zealand are undefeated in their last four men’s Tests against England (W3, D1), their longest unbeaten run against them since an 11-match span (W2, D9) from 1984-1990. New Zealand are undefeated in their last six men’s Tests against England at home (W2, D4); they’ll be aiming for back-to-back home wins against them for the second time (also 2002-2008) following their victory at Mount Maunganui. This will be the second meeting between New Zealand and England at Seddon Park in men’s Test cricket, the Black Caps cliched a 189-run win in their inaugural clash at the venue in March 2008. England’s win percentage in New Zealand (36%) is their second best in any country they’ve travelled to for a men’s Test, only in South Africa (38%) do they have a better record (min. 20 matches). New Zealand are undefeated in their last 10 completed men’s Tests on home turf (W7, D3); winning the last four in succession of that span – the last time they won more consecutive completed Tests at home was a five-match run from March 1997-December 1998. England have won nine of their last 11 men’s Tests when they’ve won the toss (L2), the only exceptions in that span have been a 203-run loss to India (August 2018) and their innings and 65-run defeat to New Zealand last time out. New Zealand’s total of 615 in their first batting innings of this bilateral series is the Black Caps’ highest team total against England in the history of men’s Test cricket and the first time they’d passed 600+ against them. Ben Stokes (England) is one of just three players to score 700+ runs in men’s Test cricket in 2019 (746 runs, also Steve Smith and Mayank Agarwal); only Rohit Sharma (20) and Mayank Agarwal (18) have hit more sixes than him (15) in the format this year. BJ Watling became the ninth different wicketkeeper to score a double century in men’s Test cricket last time out and the first for New Zealand; indeed, only three wicketkeepers (Adam Gilchrist – 17, Andy Flower – 12 and Les Ames – 8) have more centuries than Watling (7) in the format. No bowler has recorded more five-wicket hauls in men’s Test cricket in 2019 than New Zealand’s Neil Wagner (3, also Rashid Khan), one of which came against England last time out (5-44).
